Winawer Variation, Eingorn Variation

The Eingorn Variation answers 7. Qg4 with 7...Kf8, guarding g7 with the king instead of castling. Eingorn adopted it from 1983. Black often aims for ...Qa5-a4 to exchange light-squared bishops. After 8. Nf3 Qa5 9. Bd2 Qa4 10. Ra2, White can no longer use a4 to trade them on favorable terms. Hence 8. a4 and 8. Bd2 are now preferred, while the common 8. h4 prepares Rh3 for a kingside attack. Engines rate White clearly better.
