About the Armenian Line

With 6...cxd4 Black ignores the threat to the a5-bishop, so both sides' minor pieces are left hanging. The usual reply, 7. Nb5, hits d4 and eyes d6. Here 7...Bc7 is preferred to 7...Bb6 because it gains a tempo on e5. The sharper 7. Qg4 targets the kingside, since 7...dxc3 runs into 8. Qxg7. The line is named after Rafael Vaganian and Smbat Lputian. Engines give White a slight edge.
