About the Arafat Gambit

The Arafat Gambit is the 3. Bd3 branch of the Omega Gambit. After 1. d4 Nf6 2. e4 Nxe4 3. Bd3 Nf6 4. Bg5, White is a pawn down and brings the dark-squared bishop out against the f6 knight, relying on quicker development and the half-open e-file. Clyde Nakamura, the gambit's pioneer, named it after Abdel Arafat, who played it several times in the 1980s. Black most often answers 4...e6 or 4...d5 and scores well, and engines consider Black clearly better.
