A rare Evans Gambit line in which Black answers 7. O-O by pushing the extra pawn to d3, keeping two pawns up in a roughly balanced, double-edged game.

About the Dufresne Defense

After 6...exd4 7. O-O in the Evans Gambit, the Dufresne Defense continues 7...d3. Black pushes the d-pawn forward rather than taking on c3 or holding the pawn on d4. This keeps a two-pawn material lead, but the d3-pawn is advanced and exposed, and Black's d-pawns are doubled. White most often replies 8. Qb3, aiming at f7, while 8. Qxd3 wins the pawn back at once. The line is rarely played, results are close to even, and the engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
