Evans Gambit line in which White castles with 6. O-O before playing d4, taking the king off the a5-bishop's diagonal so the c3-pawn is not pinned.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Slow Variation
The Slow Variation delays the central break of the Evans Gambit with 6. O-O. Castling takes the king off the e1–a5 diagonal, so the c3-pawn is no longer pinned by the a5-bishop when d4 follows. Black, still a pawn up, most often answers 6...Nf6, attacking e4. The alternatives are 6...d6, which supports e5, and the rarer 6...Nge7. Black scores well in online games, and the engine gives Black a slight edge.
