A sharp Max Lange Attack branch in which White captures on g7 at move nine, leaving both sides with damaged pawn structures and level material.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Max Lange Attack Accepted
This branch of the Max Lange Attack has White answer 8...Be6 with 9. fxg7, collecting a kingside pawn instead of playing the main line 9. Ng5. Material is level. Black's kingside is broken into isolated f- and h-pawns, and Black's c-pawns are doubled, though the advanced pawns on c4 and d4 cramp White. White's g-pawns are also doubled. Black almost always replies 9...Rg8, attacking the g7-pawn along the half-open file. Engines consider the position roughly balanced, while White scores well in practice.
