The Pincus Variation is Black's attempt to support the risky recapture 5...Nxd5 against the Lolli Attack, 6. d4. The check 6...Bb4+ invites 7. c3, which takes the c3-square from White's queen's knight. White answers with that pawn move in nearly every game; 7. Bd2 and 7. Nc3 are rare. The line is seldom played, White scores heavily with few draws, and the engine assesses the position as clearly better for White.
