The Cozio Variation meets the Bishop's Gambit check 3...Qh4+ 4. Kf1 with 4...d6. This modest move opens the c8-bishop's diagonal while the queen stays on h4. The line has come to be highly regarded, and the Maurian Defense, 3...Nc6, often transposes into it. White usually replies 5. Nf3, gaining a tempo on the queen. 5. d4 and 5. Nc3 are the alternatives. Engines slightly prefer Black, though White scores somewhat better in online games.
