The Dodo Variation, 3. Qg4, meets the threat of ...Qh4+ by covering h4 with the queen, which also attacks the pawn on f4. The early queen sortie is a target. Black can return the pawn and develop with gain of time, and 3...Nf6, the most frequent reply, hits the queen at once. Engines give Black a clear advantage, Black scores well in practice, and the line is rarely seen.
