King's Gambit line in which White castles after 4...Bg7, letting Black keep the extra pawn behind a kingside chain; engines and practice favor Black.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hanstein Gambit
The Hanstein Gambit arises when White answers 4...Bg7, a safer choice than 4...g4, by castling rather than pushing 5. h4, which leads to the Philidor Gambit. Black guards the extra pawn with the g5–f4 chain and the g7-bishop. The main replies are 5...h6 and 5...d6, usually met by 6. d4. The position is often reached by transposition from the Becker or Fischer Defense. Engines rate Black clearly better, and Black scores well in practice.
