About the Kolisch Defense

The Kolisch Defense meets 5. Ne5 with 5...d6, kicking the centralized knight rather than defending g4. White nearly always replies 6. Nxg4, since without it the g4-pawn is hard to win back; the usual follow-up 6...Nf6 hits the knight and e4, and Black gives up the extra pawn to lead in development. The rare 6. Nxf7 has scored poorly for White. Engines give Black a slight edge, and practical results are close to even.
