A dated, risky Kieseritzky Gambit defense in which Black props up the g4-pawn with 5...h5, at the cost of time and a vulnerable f7-square.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Long Whip
The Long Whip, 5...h5, defends the g4-pawn directly rather than counterattacking e4 or returning material. Its drawback is f7: after 6. Bc4, by far the most common reply, Black must resort to clumsy moves such as 6...Rh7 or 6...Nh6, losing time to keep the extra pawn. Theory regards it as old-fashioned and risky. It nevertheless appears frequently in online play, where White scores well, though engines see only a slight edge for White.
