With 6...Qe7, Black departs from the usual 6...Qf6 (Sarratt Defense). Instead of guarding f4 directly, the queen sets a trap. If White takes the pawn with 7. Qxf4, the check 7...Qc5+ attacks the c4-bishop. Even so, 7. Qxf4 is the engine's preferred move and scores well for White in practice. The most common reply is 7. d4. Engines give Black a slight edge, and the line is rarely seen.
