About the Philidor Gambit

After 3...g5 4. Bc4 Bg7, the Philidor Gambit attacks Black's kingside pawn chain at once with 5. h4, rather than playing d4 and O-O as in the Hanstein Gambit. Black most often holds the chain with 5...h6, usually followed by 6. d4 d6, while 5...g4 is the main alternative. Engines give Black a slight edge, though White scores well in practice. The Schultz Variation arises via 3...h6 and features 7. Qd3.
