About the Bird Gambit

The Bird Gambit is the most popular branch of the Rosentreter Gambit. White meets 4...g4 with 5. Ne5, and after 5...Qh4+ 6. g3 Black almost always captures 6...fxg3. White's point is 7. Qxg4. Black can then exchange queens with 7...Qxg4. The greedier 7...g2+ 8. Qxh4 gxh1=Q wins a rook, but after 9. Nc3 Black's position is precarious. Engines slightly favor Black, who also scores well in online games.
