About the Anderssen Counterattack

The Anderssen Counterattack arises from the Silberschmidt Defense when Black answers 7. d4 with 7...d6, driving back the e5-knight. White most often retreats with 8. Nd3, which eyes the f4-pawn and is the engine's top choice. The rarer 8. Bxf4 and 8. Nxf7 score poorly. Engines judge the position roughly balanced. Even so, Black, a pawn up against an uncastled king, wins the majority of online games.
