A dubious King's Gambit Accepted sideline, 3. Bb5, which allows ...Qh4+ and offers the king flight to f1 at the cost of a poorly placed bishop.

The move 3. Bb5 shares its name, the Schurig Gambit, with 3. Bd3, which follows the same plan. White does not stop 3...Qh4+; instead the bishop clears f1 so the king can step there. On b5 the bishop does little and can be hit by ...c6, which is both the engine's top choice and the most frequent reply. Engines give Black a clear advantage, and the line is seldom played.
