About the Alapin Variation

The Alapin Variation is a forcing branch of the Charousek Gambit, 4. d3. Black regains the pawn with 5...Nxe4 and develops with 6...Bc5. After 7. Qe2 pins the knight, Black answers with the check 7...Bf2+. That drives the king to d1, and 8...Qxd5+ 9. Nfd2 follows. Material is level, but White's king is stranded in the center, with the d- and e-files open.
