About the Anderssen Attack

The Anderssen Attack is White's check 4. Bb5+ in the Staunton Line of the Falkbeer Countergambit, chosen instead of returning the pawn with the Charousek Gambit, 4. d3. White develops with tempo and holds on to the extra d5-pawn. Black usually interposes with 4...c6, the most common and better-scoring reply, which also hits d5, or with 4...Bd7. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and overall results are evenly split.
