About the Charousek Variation

The Charousek Variation is a sharp branch of the Staunton Line. White returns the pawn with 4. d3 and then goes after the black knight that lands on e4. After 4...Nf6 5. dxe4 Nxe4 6. Qe2 Qxd5 7. Nd2, the knight is pinned on the e-file and challenged by the d2-knight. Black props it up with 7...f5, and 8. g4 strikes at that support. The d- and e-files are open, and both kingsides are loosened.
