A sharp branch of the Falkbeer Countergambit's Charousek line, in which Black meets White's 8. g4 by castling and leaving the f5-bishop under attack.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Tarrasch Variation
The Tarrasch Variation arises from the Charousek Gambit, 4. d3, after Black recaptures with 5...Nxe4 and develops actively with 6...Bc5 and 7...Bf5. White's 7. Qe2 pins the knight on e4 along the open e-file, and 8. g4 attacks its defender on f5. Rather than retreating the bishop, Black answers 8...O-O, removing the king from the pin and leaving the bishop en prise. The play that follows is forcing and tactical, with White a pawn up.
