About the Simagin Variation

The Simagin Variation is a branch of the Fianchetto Variation in which Black, after 6...Nc6 7. O-O, develops the bishop with 7...Bg4 instead of the Panno's 7...a6 or the Uhlmann-Szabo 7...e5. The bishop eyes the f3-knight, adding to the c6-knight's pressure on d4. White usually questions the bishop with 8. h3; 8. d5, driving the knight from c6, is the main alternative, and 8. Re1 is also played. Engines give White a slight edge, though online results are nearly level.
