About the Traditional Line

The Traditional Line arises when White meets 9...Nd7 with 10. f3, reinforcing e4, and Black answers 10...f5, the thematic kingside break. With the center locked, the sides play on opposite wings: Black prepares a pawn storm with moves such as ...g5, while White pursues queenside expansion aimed at c4-c5. The most common reply is 11. g4, the Benko Attack, which fights for the kingside directly. 11. Be3 and 11. Nd3 are quieter alternatives. Engines rate White slightly better.
