A rare pawn sacrifice in the Tayler Opening in which White skips recapturing on d4 and plays e5 to drive Black's f6-knight away and gain time.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Basman Gambit
The Basman Gambit, 4. d4 exd4 5. e5, turns the quiet Tayler Opening into a pawn sacrifice. White does not recapture on d4 and instead pushes the e-pawn to evict the f6-knight, hoping to gain space and tempi. The knight's usual retreats are 5...Nd5, the most common, followed by 5...Ng4 and 5...Ne4. The engine gives Black a slight edge. The line is rarely seen.
