Train it in TheoriaAbout the Bilguer Variation
The Bilguer Variation arises from the old main line of the Latvian Gambit, 3. Nxe5 Qf6 4. d4, when Black drives the knight away with 4...d6 and White retreats it to c4. The d4–e4 center gives White easy development, while ...d6 has shut in Black's f8-bishop. Black almost always continues 5...fxe4, winning back the pawn. The engine rates White as clearly better, though Lichess results are closer, with White scoring somewhat more.
