A rare and dubious Latvian Gambit sideline in which Black offers the b-pawn with 3...b5 to deflect White's bishop from the a2-g8 diagonal.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Strautins Gambit
The Strautins Gambit, 3...b5, answers the Mayet Attack by offering a wing pawn to lure the bishop off the a2-g8 diagonal, where it bears down on f7 and g8. It is a rare and dubious try. The engine gives White a large advantage and prefers 4. Bb3, keeping the diagonal, or 4. Bxg8. In a small Lichess sample, 4. Bxb5 is the most frequent reply, yet Black has scored well against it.
