A Classical Nimzo-Indian line in which Black answers the bishop pair with 6...Ne4, gaining time on the queen and aiming to open the game quickly.

About the Main Line

After surrendering the bishop for the knight, Black plays 6...Ne4 to hit the queen on c3 and use the tempo to speed up development. White almost always retreats with 7. Qc2, after which Black chooses between 7...c5 and 7...Nc6 with ...e5 in mind, the latter leading to the San Remo Variation. Black seeks to open lines before White's bishop pair takes effect, and the play is usually dynamically balanced.
