About the Vitolins-Adorjan Gambit

The Vitolins-Adorjan Gambit replaces the Keres Defense move 6...b6 with 6...b5. Instead of preparing a fianchetto, Black offers a pawn. The idea is to punish the time White has spent on queen moves. After 7. cxb5, which is almost always played, Black looks for open queenside lines and quick development while White's kingside pieces are still at home. The alternatives 7. Bg5 and 7. e3 are rarely seen. The gambit is uncommon, and the engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
