A Nimzo-Indian line in which Black answers the Classical setup with 6...b6, preparing to develop the queen's bishop while keeping a solid d5–e6 center.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Schlechter Defense
The Schlechter Defense, ECO E52, arises when Black meets 5. Bd3 d5 6. Nf3 with 6...b6 rather than the Gligoric System's 6...c5. Black prepares to develop the queen's bishop on b7 or a6 behind the d5–e6 pawns. White usually castles with 7. O-O. The rarer 7. cxd5 has scored well for White in online games, and 7. a3 puts the question to the b4-bishop. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
