An eccentric Nimzowitsch Defense line in which Black answers 3. e5 with 3...Ng4; inventive, but engines rate it clearly better for White.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the El Columpio Defense
The El Columpio Defense, 3...Ng4, is an eccentric reply to 3. e5 devised by the Spanish grandmaster Marc Narciso Dublan, whose name for it means "The Swing." The knight attacks e5 from g4 instead of retreating to d5. The usual course is 4. d4 d6 5. h3 Nh6, after which the Exchange Variation, 6. exd6, and the Pin Variation, 6. Bb5, are held to favor White. The dubious 6. e6 is the El Columpio Gambit. Engines give White a clear advantage.
