About the Tartakower-Indian

The Tartakower-Indian arises after 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 d6 3. Nf3 Bg4. Black develops the light-squared bishop outside the pawn chain and pins the f3-knight before choosing between ...e5 and ...Nbd7. With the bishop gone from c8, b7 is more exposed, and 4. Qb3 is among the engine's preferred replies. In practice 4. Nc3 is by far the most common answer, ahead of 4. e3 and 4. g3. The engine gives White a slight edge.
