A Pterodactyl Defense line in which 4. Be3 shores up d4 and Black replies with the check 4...Qa5+; White usually blocks with c3 or Nc3.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Anhanguera
This line of the Pterodactyl Defense arises when White answers the early ...c5 by defending d4 with 4. Be3, the Anhanguera idea, and Black replies with the check 4...Qa5+. The usual reply is 5. c3, which blocks with a pawn and has scored better for White than 5. Nc3. That move transposes to the Sicilian Anhanguera, where Black has done well. 5. Qd2 is rarely played. Engines give White a slight edge.
