A rare reply to the Central Variation of the Queen's Gambit Accepted in which Black hits e4 with 3...f5, loosening the kingside to keep the c4 pawn.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Schwartz Defense
The Schwartz Defense, 3...f5, answers White's central advance in the Queen's Gambit Accepted by challenging e4 at once while Black stays a pawn up on c4. The move weakens the e8–h5 diagonal and the e6 square, and engines rate the position as clearly better for White. The most common reply is 4. e5, which gains space and leaves f5 fixed. 4. Nc3 and 4. exf5 are the main alternatives. The line is seldom played, and White scores well with it.
