The Bf5 Line develops Black's light-squared bishop to the b1–h7 diagonal, where it eyes c2 and b1. It differs from 5...Bg4, which bears down on the f3-knight, and from 5...Be6, which can support a later ...Bh3. White usually continues 6. Bg2. The less common 6. a3, which takes b4 from Black's pieces, has scored well for White. The line is rarely played, and the engine judges White's extra pawn to be a clear advantage.
