About the Capablanca Variation

The Capablanca Variation, 7. Bxf6, gives up the bishop pair so that the g5-bishop is gone before a later ...dxc4 can expose it to the queen on a5. Black almost always recaptures 7...Nxf6, keeping the pawn structure intact, while 7...gxf6 is a rarity. The play is less tactical than in the 7. Nd2 lines. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and White scores slightly better than Black in online games.
