A rare Queen's Gambit Declined sideline in which Black adds ...g6 to a Slav-style pawn triangle against White's quiet e3 and Nbd2 setup.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Spielmann Variation
The Spielmann Variation arises when Black meets White's restrained development with e3 and Nbd2 by adding 5...g6 to the c6-d5-e6 pawn triangle. The f8-bishop goes to g7 rather than d6 or e7, while the c8-bishop stays shut in behind e6. The line is seldom played. The engine gives White a slight edge. 6. Be2, 6. b3 and 6. Bd3 are the most frequent replies, and the engine also suggests 6. Qc2.
