About the Intermezzo Line

Having used 5...Bb4+ to draw White's bishop to d2, Black withdraws with 6...Be7 instead of choosing the Modern Line, 6...Qe7. On d2 the bishop stands awkwardly and takes the knight's natural square. White nearly always continues 7. Bg2, and a standard reply is 7...c6 8. Bc3 d5, when the bishop obstructs the c-file. The rarer 7. Nc3 has scored well for White. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
