A rare reply to the Steinitz Countergambit in which White offers the e-pawn with 3. e4 to gain space with d5, like a reversed Albin Countergambit.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Morris Countergambit
The Morris Countergambit is White's reply 3. e4 to the Steinitz Countergambit. White gives up the e-pawn in order to advance d4-d5 and cramp Black's position, producing a reversed-color Albin Countergambit. Taking with 3...dxe4, the Morris Countergambit Accepted, is the usual answer, and 3...cxd4 and 3...Nc6 are the main alternatives. The line is rarely played. The engine rates it as roughly balanced, and White scores slightly better in online games.
