Train it in TheoriaAbout the Modern Line
In this line, White meets the Slav-style 2...c6 with 3. Bg5, and after 3...h6 4. Bh4 Black plays 4...Qb6. The queen attacks b2, which lost its defender when the bishop left c1. It also steps off the h4-d8 diagonal, removing the pin on e7. White most often covers the pawn with 5. b3 or 5. Qc1, while engines favor 5. Nbd2. The position is rated balanced, and Black has scored slightly better in online games.
