About the Breyer Variation

The Breyer Variation arises in the A46 Torre Attack after 3...d5 4. e3 c5 5. c3, when Black plays 5...Qb6. With the dark-squared bishop already on g5, b2 has lost its defender, and the queen attacks it at once. White most often answers 6. Qb3, offering a queen trade, while 6. Qc2 and 6. b3 are the main alternatives. Engines rate the position as level. The line is rarely played, and Black has scored slightly better in the available games.
