About the Main Line

With 5...O-O Black completes the fianchetto setup, and White must now choose where to place the light-squared bishop. 6. Bd3 is the most common choice, ahead of 6. Be2. 6. c4 is a less frequent reply that adds pressure on d5 and moves the game closer to Grünfeld territory. The engine also favors 6. h3, which gives the g5-bishop a retreat square. It rates the position as roughly balanced, though White scores slightly better in practice.
