Train it in TheoriaAbout the Rio de Janeiro Variation
With 5...Be7 Black leaves the knight on e4 and hurries to castle, accepting e-file pressure in return for getting the king out of the center before lines open. The nineteenth-century treatment, 6. Qe2 Nd6 7. Bxc6 bxc6 8. dxe5 Nb7 9. Nc3 O-O, gives White a modest edge. Emanuel Lasker played it frequently, but it is now rare; 6. dxe5, the Minckwitz Variation, and 6. Re1 are the usual replies.
