A sharp gambit in the Classical Ruy Lopez where Black meets 4. c3 with 4...f5, a Schliemann-style strike offering the f-pawn for White's e-pawn.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Cordel Gambit
The Cordel Gambit, 4...f5, answers White's c3 with a Schliemann-style thrust, offering the f-pawn for the e-pawn. Unlike the Jaenisch Gambit, White cannot defend e4 with Nc3, but the bishop on c5 becomes a target for d4. Accepting with 5. exf5 allows 5...e4, hitting the knight. The more common 5. d4 is considered strongest, and the main line runs 5...fxe4 6. Bxc6 dxc6 7. Nxe5 Bd6 8. Qh5+ g6 9. Qe2. Adolph Schliemann advocated this gambit.
