Line of the Portuguese Gambit in which White checks with 5. Bb5+ before 6. c4, keeping the extra pawn while Black seeks development.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Jadoul Variation
The Jadoul Variation inserts the check 5. Bb5+ before supporting d5 with c4, the move White plays at once in the Banker Variation. Black blocks with 5...Nbd7, and after 6. c4 White stays a pawn up with d5 secured, while Black looks for compensation in development. The usual reply by far is 6...a6, questioning the bishop; 6...e6, striking at d5, is rarer but has scored better for Black. Engines give White a slight edge.
