About the Alekhine Gambit

The Alekhine Gambit, 5. e5, attacks the knight on f6 at once, without first exchanging on c6. In the Mieses Variation, by contrast, 5. Nxc6 bxc6 6. e5 comes first. Here the e5-pawn is left unprotected, and 5...Nxe5 is by far the most common reply. 5...Nd5 and 5...Nxd4 are rarer alternatives. The engine judges Black slightly better after the push, and Black scores well in practice. The line is an uncommon sideline.
