A rare Scotch Game line in which White meets the Steinitz Variation's 4...Qh4 with 5. Nf3, giving up the e4-pawn for quick development.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Fraser Variation
The Fraser Variation is a little-played answer to the Steinitz Variation, 4...Qh4. White retreats the knight with 5. Nf3, attacking the queen but leaving e4 undefended. Black nearly always takes the pawn with check, 5...Qxe4+, and White looks for compensation in development after 6. Be2 Bb4+ 7. c3 Be7 8. O-O. The engine rates the position as roughly balanced, and practical results are almost even.
