About the Sosonko Variation

The Sosonko Variation is a Main Line Yugoslav Attack sideline in which Black answers 9. Bc4 with 9...Nd7 instead of the usual 9...Bd7. The retreat opens the long diagonal for the g7-bishop and takes the knight out of reach of a g4-g5 advance, but removes a defender from the kingside. White usually replies 10. O-O-O, with 10. Bb3 and 10. h4 the main alternatives. The engine rates White as clearly better, and the line is rarely played.
