After 4. dxc5 Qa5+ 5. Nc3 Bxc3+ 6. bxc3 Qxc3+, Black wins back the pawn but gives up the fianchettoed bishop for a knight. White is left with doubled c-pawns and an isolated a-pawn, while Black's kingside dark squares lose their natural defender. White, in check, nearly always answers 7. Bd2 and gains time against the queen. The engine assesses the position as balanced, and White scores somewhat better in online games.
