A Kan Sicilian Wing Attack line in which White fianchettoes the king's bishop with g3, setting up a duel on the long light-squared diagonal.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Fianchetto Variation
This line reaches the Wing Attack structure with White's pawn already on g3, arriving through 3. Nc3 a6 4. g3 b5 5. d4 cxd4 6. Nxd4 rather than the usual Kan order. The bishop is bound for g2, where it supports e4 against ...b4 and opposes a black bishop on b7. Black almost always answers 6...Bb7 to contest that diagonal. The engine rates the position roughly balanced, and Black scores slightly better in online games.
