Train it in TheoriaAbout the Modern Variation
This line reaches the Scheveningen structure through the Taimanov move order, 4...Nc6 5. Nc3 d6, so Black's queen's knight is already committed to c6 before ...Nf6 arrives. White's 6. Be2 signals the Classical treatment of quiet development, castling and a later f4. The usual continuations are 7. O-O and 7. Be3, and the latter has scored better for White in practice. The engine assesses the position as roughly balanced.
